The ABS-1A (Koreasat-2) satellite arrived at 75Å. It will stay there together with ABS-1 until ABS-2 is launched in 2012.
Koreasat-2 was built by Lockheed Martin íusing the G3000 bus and launched in 1996. Koreasat-2 carries Ku-band transponders fro fixed and broadcasting services. Under an agreement between KT Corporation and Asia Broadcast Satellite (ABS) Koreasat-2 was renamed as ABS-1A.
The ABS-1A satellite has enough propellant for two to five years. It is going to be a valuable source of capacity in Ku band to provide telecommunications service to customers in the Middle East.
