Launched in May 2000, the Eutelsat W4 satellite is the forth spacecraft built for Eutelsat by Alcatel Espace.
W-series satellites have flexible coverage patterns and various customized options in terms of bandwidth for users and businesses in Europe, Asia and Africa.
Nineteen high-power transponders in the Russia beam on W4 cover eastern Europe and the European part of Russia offering a wide range of services such as video, audio, multimedia and the internet.
Also, the satellite covers sub-Saharan Africa (fixed beam) as well as Nigeria and its neighboring countries inside a high-power spot beam.
The W4 satellite at 36° E is co-located with another Eutelsat spacecraft – SESAT – providing connectivity between Europe, central Siberia and South Asia.
Under a distribution agreement with Eutelsat signed in July 2002, Intersputnik markets and sells Eutelsat’s satellite capacity and telecommunications services. Today, Intersputnik uses much resource on W4 to support broadcasting of one of the largest DTH companies in the CIS.
