Satellite news gathering (SNG)

Ku-band satellites with broad beams are used by broadcasters for satellite news gathering.

Music, sports, news, ‘space bridges’ and real-time teleconferences become available with driveaway or flyaway stations equipped with video cameras and 1.5-2 m transmit antennas to provide comprehensive SNG /DSNG services.

Any drive- or flyaway should be tested and approved by the owner of the satellite or lessor of satellite capacity. When uplinking, the station should follow the established satellite access procedure.

The minimum time for the lease of satellite resources on an occasional basis is 10 consecutive minutes.
